Albemarle Green Building Seminar and Expo a Success

The College of The Albemarle (COA) and UNC-CSI hosted the very first Albemarle Green Building Seminar and Expo on February 28, 2008.  This day-long event consisted of a variety of seminars focusing on green building concepts and a vendor hall exhibiting green technologies and products. Over 200 local and regional contractors, trades people, homeowners, and high school students attended the event to learn about green building practices and technology, creating new markets through education, and green building opportunities in Northeastern North Carolina.

Guest speakers from both the University system and successful green building businesses from the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic region gave trades-based seminars on the major components of green building: indoor air quality, site sustainability, energy efficiency, water efficiency, conservation and storm water. Powerpoint presentations are available for download below. Following the seminars, guest speakers fielded questions from the audience in an open panel discussion. The feedback generated from this discussion will be used to assist COA in the development of new green building curriculum. In addition to the seminars, a vendor booth expo was open all day allowing attendees to learn about a vast array of green technologies and products.

The Albemarle Green Building Seminar and Expo set the stage for the future of green building in Northeastern North Carolina. The UNC Coastal Studies Institute and The College of the Albemarle look forward to hosting additional green building programming and continuing to facilitate dialogue on incorporating green building into our community.
