Bio

Prior to taking her current position, Lu worked in the NC state Shellfish Sanitation laboratory in Morehead City and at Duke University 's Marine Laboratory in Beaufort.

Current Projects

Lu is in charge of the laboratory aspect of CSI's interagency Bacterial Source Tracking (BST) projects. Working on a variety of BST projects through a joint agreement between CSI, NCSU and DENR's Shellfish Sanitation and Recreational Water Quality Section, she co-ordinates interagency handling of samples and data. The projects are designed to evaluate various methods of microbial or bacterial source tracking.

Lu designed and set up a laboratory to perform BST work, including fecal coliform enumeration, E. coli isolation, multiple antibiotic resistance profiling and ribotyping. The work is in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Charleston Laboratory for Coastal Environmental Health and Biomolecular Research in Charleston, SC.
